Types of Neurons
Sensory NeuronThe Sensory Neuron sends electrical impulses to the brain and spinal cord from the receptors. The Sensory Neuron is found throughout the whole body.
Relay NeuronThe Relay Neuron is also known as the Intermediate Neuron. The Relay Neuron receives electrical impulses from the Sensory Neuron and Send them to the Motor Neuron. The Relay Neuron is found in the Spinal Cord and in the Brain.
Motor NeuronThe Motor Neuron receives the electrical messages for the Relay Neuron to the effectors such as a muscle or a gland which carry out an response. The Motor Neuron is found throughout the whole body.

Neurons structure and functions.
Cell body-
|
The Cell body serves as a control centre and contains the nucleus and cytoplasm. The Axon transmits nerve impulses away from the cell body. The Dendron receives impluses from a receptor or other neurons and transmits the impulses towards the cell body. The Dendron branches into the dendrites. The Myelin Sheath is a layer of most liquid that wraps around the nerve fibre. The Myelin Sheath helps the axon transmit the impulses faster. The Node of Ranvier is the gap in between the Myelin Sheath. The Node of Ranvier helps speed up impulse transmissions along the nerve fibre by allowing the impulses to jump from node to node. |
